Marriage Preparation Course

Every couple who plan to marry at All Saints
Fulham is encouraged to attend the marriage preparation course
which is run by the clergy and a Relate counsellor, together
with representatives of the Parish Visitors.
There are three sessions which take place at the Middle Room. They last for two hours and food is provided.
The first session provides an opportunity for approximately
eight couples to meet each other and the clergy. The first half
of the evening looking at the practicalities of the wedding,
including:
-
Music
-
Readings
-
Flowers
-
Ushers
-
Photographers
-
Service Sheets
-
Bridesmaids
-
Cars etc.
The emphasis is on reassuring couples that we want their wedding
to be special and will do all we can to make sure the service
runs smoothly. The latter half of the evening then looks at the
wedding service in detail, together with its history, symbolism
and meaning.
The second and third sessions are in smaller groups with a
Relate counsellor. The evenings start with a simple supper of
pizza and salad – an opportunity for couples to swap experience
about organising their weddings. The rest of the evening focuses
on relationships, commitment, listening skills, potential
problems that might arise and ways to deal with them. Couples
are encouraged to share experiences, challenge statements and
ask questions.
Although the subject of marriage and human relationships cannot
be mastered in these short sessions, the feedback is excellent
and couples are usually grateful for the opportunity to think
about each other and what marriage means.
