Community Development Forum

On a Saturday lunchtime in early March the Middle Room hummed with activity during the inaugural Community Development Forum.

People who support the local community such as through charity or Trustee work, or who are involved in education or local businesses, as well as those who were interested were all invited to attend.

Attendees included those who work with prisoners, with children, people who help provide food for the elderly or infirm as well as those who were interested in volunteering.  The Community Development Team was extremely pleased that so many did attend and hope that it was helpful for them.

The aim of the forum was to bring members of the congregation together to share knowledge and to discuss relevant issues and in no time the forum became what Father Joe described as an “information marketplace”.  Informally, over coffee and sandwiches people shared information.  One attendee said that, although he had often sat in front of another attendee during a Sunday service, he had no idea that she was involved in working with the community as well.

We hope that by holding meetings of this type we can help people connect with each other and through doing, help organizations that are looking for resources (human or otherwise), help individuals who want to volunteer and provide a forum to discuss issues of common interest.

The Community Development Team plans to hold further meetings and we are currently looking at a potential meeting in June.  If you would like to attend, know of someone who needs help or know of an organization that we should invite, please contact Matthew Morgan by email on Community@AllSaints-Fulham.org.uk.
