Learning
"And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, 'Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad.'"
Bible, Acts (ch. XXVI, v. 24)

Learning is part and parcel of discipleship and is the key to keeping faith alive so All Saints offers many opportunities for developing a deeper understanding, at each phase of life.
During Lent, and November each year the parish sets aside time for talks and house groups which are dedicated to special themes. In 2008, for example, older people met to discuss whether the second half of life was ‘Broken or Blessed’; others chose to consider ‘How to read the Bible in the 21st Century’, and some preferred an evening in the pub where they could ‘Ask the Clergy anything under the sun (within reason!). During Lent 2009, we focused on ‘Taking Stock’ of our lives, relationship and work, using sermons, bible studies and house groups to aid learning and in Lent 2010 we will be looking at the theme of "Negotiating the Wildernesses of Modern Life".
House groups run throughout the year; one even takes place in a local pub! They follow a variety of formats, according to the interests of those in the group. Recent books discussed include Samuel Well’s Power and Passion; a series of essays entitled ‘Why I am Still an Anglican’; and John Pritchard’s How to Pray. Others have discussed the Parables and Miracles, and Women in the Bible. The groups cater of all ages, and you are welcome to join at any stage during the year. Those interest in exploring a vocation to lay or ordained ministry should contact the clergy in the first instance. Support is provided for anyone undertaking courses run by the Diocese. Anyone interested in preaching, may like to enquire about the lay sermons planned for 2010, following the warm reception given to those who spoke at Evensong over the summer of 2009.
Details of courses run elsewhere in London are regularly included in the weekly email update, All Saints Fulham magazine and Contact newssheet. Please fill in the box below if you would like to receive the email update.
