November Study talks
In November 2011, we enjoyed the following stimulating talks:
On November 2nd, Sir Michael Burton who is a long standing member of the congregation, will speak about his journey through The History of Christianity in the Levant. Having enjoyed a distinguished diplomatic career with several postings in that area of the world, Sir Michael is a Member of the Council of The Royal Society of Asian Affairs, with whom he has toured to Lebanon, Syria, Jordon, Tibet and Iran. As an active member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) and the Middle East Association, he lectures on a regular basis, to both expert and lay audiences.

As the Lay Canon of St Paul’s, with special responsibility for Visual Arts, Lucrezia Walker has a key role in helping to develop the St Paul’s Cathedral Arts Programme; an ongoing programme which seeks to explore the encounter between art and faith. She studied art history at the University of East Anglia, has an MA in Victorian studies, and used to teach at Rome University. Having served as Galleries correspondent for The Tablet, she now lectures and writes on artists and art history. Lucrezia has kindly offered to give us a guided tour of selected pictures at the National Gallery, on Friday November 11th meeting there at 6.45pm, for a 7pm start. The title of the talk is Picturing Faith.
Maria Brenton currently chairs Hammersmith and Fulham Action for the Disabled (HAFAD), and is a passionate advocate for social justice. She has a long standing personal and professional interest in old age and housing, and has been a Visiting Fellow at the School for Policy Studies Bristol University since 1996. She brings her experience to help us reflect on issues of Social Justice: choice and control for the disabled.
